Globally renowned for their timeless architecture and calming interiors, Madrid based architecture studio OOAA Arquitectura create geometric 'vacuums' and 'volumes' formed from natural materials to deliver serene sanctuaries for their clients.

Founder and director Iker Ochotorena explains that the studio works together with the client to produce the most desirable union of concept, function and beautiful spaces where life takes shape naturally. It is this perspective that guided the studio to renovate the Blanca De Navarra apartment in Madrid, Spain. The Blanca De Navarra apartment describes an architectural intervention between contemporary design, classical design, and warmth through materiality—all in which share a mutual concept of calmness.

Almagro is one of the 19th century's most beautiful neighbourhoods in Madrid. Here you will find situated, Blanca De Navarra, a classical building with three balconies overlooking the street and two interior patios. OOAA Arquitectura cleverly arranged an open-living plan with a central kitchen and dining room which divides the living room and the bedrooms. Despite its division, the repetition and rhythm of lines and materiality unify the apartment's interior features creating a flowing conversation between similar colour materials which suggests silence and privacy in the entire home.

While paying homage to its classical lines from the building's existing structure, Blanca De Navarra illustrates contemporary design throughout the home with the use of warm materials of natural wood textures, textile doors and imperfect walls in a lovely plaster finishing. In contrast, its classical characteristics of the balcony and lines are accentuated with the historical connection of the 18th Century affluent gold mirror and the Greek sculpture that gracefully and effortlessly merges into the living area.

Blanca De Navarra is all of these characteristics while respectively emphasising the architectural intervention between contemporary and classical design and warmth through materiality and at the same time creating a tranquil shelter for its occupants.
