Amongst the vigorous and eventful environment in the beautiful island of Greece sits Mykonos Residence I. A reconstruction and renovation project designed to create a sanctuary away from the ‘somewhat loud exterior’ to assist in translating a sense of uniformity and refuge.

Designed by Block722 Architects, this 300 m2 Mykonos Residence represents beautiful materiality, design, craftsmanship, and pays homage to its unique Aegean Sea location. Intended for comfort and refuge, the architects ensured there were plentiful resting spaces within the residence, no matter the mood, weather, and time of the day. Alike, the guesthouse by the deep blue sea, was restored and extended with breathtaking features, like a private pool and a breakfast area to enable the guests to have their own private haven within the sanctuary and soak in the Mediterranean surrounds.

Mykonos Residence was designed and crafted with attention to detail, leaving no stone left unturned. Also acknowledging its site in Greece, the admired Greek culture was preserved with a large barbecue area as well as a spacious indoor dining area inside the main house to gather for grand meals and entertainment alongside beautiful Aegean, and Cycladic inspired interiors and furniture.

Block722 Architects fused unique craftsmanship of furniture and carefully curated textiles of patterns and carpets for the bedroom and bathroom using organic linen and cotton. At the same time, Greek artisans braided daybeds and the headboard for the master bedroom. We see raw, earthy, and natural materials used heavily within the Mykonos Residence; therefore, glass and metal materials are accented throughout to create an ambient contrast, such as the giant lamps positioned over the dining table. Similarly, the outdoor furniture was designed to resist the wild weather in Mykonos while the beautiful tables add character and a historical element crafted from dehydrated elm trees dating back to over a hundred years old.
